We believe in providing a well-rounded education that nurtures creativity, curiosity, and physical well-being
Art
Art education in primary schools fosters creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression, offering children opportunities to explore diverse mediums and develop valuable skills. Children at NISL learn about famous artists as well understanding the four main art styles of painting—realism, impressionism, expressionism, and abstract art, allowing them to appreciate the diverse ways in which artists have expressed their visions and emotions throughout history. We also create opportunities for the children to learn from and with each other by creating collaborative art piece between EYFS and Primary. We all look forward to our whole school art exhibition in May.
French
Learning an additional language in primary school is valuable in its own right and provides learners with a greater awareness of the world beyond their home. It can also help children to develop skills that are highly transferable to learning literacy. Learning, reading, writing, and speaking a new language also helps with brain development, memory improvement, and retention. At NISL we offer French as our language of choice.
IT
Integrating IT in primary schools fosters digital literacy, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, enhancing the learning experience and preparing students for the future. Essential computing skills offered at NISL encompass digital literacy, keyboarding, computer navigation, basic software usage (word processing, presentations), coding and online safety, fostering a foundation for future technological competency.
Music
Music education at NISL offers numerous benefits, from cognitive and social-emotional development to creativity and cultural awareness, making it a valuable and important component of a well-rounded education. Our children thoroughly enjoying playing the recorder, piano and drums. They hage exposure to learning additional musical instruments through our ASA programme as well as combining their love of music and drama in our twice yearly whole school productions.
Performing Arts
Integrating performing arts like drama, dance, and music into primary school education provides children with a fun, engaging learning environment that fosters creativity, enhances communication, and strengthens various skills, while also making learning more retentive. Our children focus on key drama skills like stage movement and management, voice projection, teamwork and collaboration and improvisation. We provide many opportunities to showcase their talents both on and off the stage.
Physical Education
At NISL Physical Education (PE) aims to foster children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development through movement-based activities, promoting a positive attitude towards physical activity and lifelong health. We offer a range of indoor and outdoor based skill focused units of learning from gymnastics to basketball, athletics to swimming.
